If you’re a frequent traveler looking for something smaller than the Aspire 3603WXMi, head straight to Twinhead’s efio! 12KT. It may not have the latest sleek styling but it’s very compact and weighs a breach over 2kg. That’s getting down towards ultraportable territory and for under $1,500, it's great value.

 

Yet despite its small size, the screen is a reasonable 12.1in. It was even more impressive under the bonnet, packing AMD's Mobile Sempron 2800+ processor and 512MB of memory. Not surprisingly, it was one of the better performers with Office applications, and averaged under 7 minutes for each of our 250MB video file conversions – a creditable time for a budget notebook.

 

It's helped along by Hitachi’s quick IC25N060 hard drive, which is a generous 60GB. Also included is a Lite-On DVD burner and built-in Wi-Fi, although there's no FireWire or flash memory

card reader. The batter lasted for 2 hour 38 minutes, which is not fantastic, but typical of most ultraportables.

 

Overall, the eifo!12KT is a great little notebook at a great price.
